FIREARMS LICENSING INFORMATION
License to Carry (LTC)
All Applicants – Must first create an account through the MIRCS Firearms Licensing Portal.
New Applicants – All new applicants must submit a completed application along with the required accompanying documentation through the MIRCS Firearms Licensing Portal.
License Renewals – Renewal applications must be submitted through the MIRCS Firearms Records Licensing Portal.
Following the online submission, the firearms licensing officer will contact you to make an appointment to complete the process.
Beginning on April 2, 2026, new applicants for a Firearms Identification Card (FID) or License to Carry (LTC) must complete a basic firearms safety course that meets the updated requirements, including a live‑fire component, and must be drawn from the Commonwealth’s approved basic firearms safety course list.
Applications submitted prior to April 2, 2026, with a completed basic firearms safety course, will be grandfathered under the prior requirements and are not required to meet the updated live‑fire standard.
The 2024 firearms modernization law applies only to new applicants. All current FID and LTC holders are grandfathered and are not required to complete the updated basic firearms safety course or live‑fire training.
